Construction Updates: March 2018

SWANSON

Processes are underway to select architects for the extensive remodel with additions planned for Prairie Lane Elementary. Construction on the estimated $10.8 million project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2019, and will include security upgrades and new places of refuge.

All families past and present, as well as educators, community members and alumni are invited to attend our One Last Look event at Sunset Hills on Saturday, March 31 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. (Please see the invitation included in this newsletter!) The school, built in 1956, will be decommissioned after students move into a brand new Sunset Hills Elementary at the same site as the site work is completed next Fall. An important note for current families: there will be NO SCHOOL May 12-15 to allow Sunset Hills teachers to move in to their new spaces. We will host a ribbon cutting and open house later this summer before students and staff begin the 2018-2019 school year.

Crews have completed the decommissioning process at Swanson and are nearly finished with demolition of the school. New Era Construction will begin mass grading the foundation at the site within the coming weeks. Site fencing is also complete and screening will be installed after demolition has taken place. The new Swanson Elementary is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2019.

The Boys and Girls Club in partnership with Westside Community Schools will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday May 8 at the site of the organization’s newest renovation project at Westbrook Elementary. This project is funded by the Boys and Girls Club. All are welcome to attend the May 8th event, which will feature some of the talented Westbrook students who also enjoy activities offered by the Boys and Girls Club.

Crews will complete final work at Westside Middle School this summer.
