Westside Community Schools and Project Advocates, its representative, will hold a community information session on the planned construction at Westside Middle School on Wednesday, May 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be in the WMS cafeteria.
Planners will walk through the timeline for construction, which will begin after school releases next week and continue in phases until March 2018. The meeting will offer parents, including those of current sixth-graders, a chance to see what will be happening in the building over the next two years. Click here for the plan.
Activities will continue as scheduled in the building this summer. Construction areas will be sealed, so students will not be impacted. The first phase of construction this summer will convert the media center into temporary classrooms and create four other temporary classrooms in another wing. Contractors also will begin work on the lower level of a two-story addition and begin renovating the life lab. The temporary classrooms will be completed for the start of school; the addition and life lab will be completed in December and open in January 2017.
In January 2017, renovations will begin on the east wing of the existing building. In May 2017, work will begin to create a new media center in the middle of the school and to renovate the current media center. That work will wrap up in December 2017. Renovation also will begin on the northeast wing of the building and on the lower level of the southwest pod. The final phase, beginning in January 2018, will be renovation of the upper level of the southwest pod.
