Sunset Hills Elementary School has opened for Westside Community Schools students. The $13.8 million dollar project is on time and on budget as promised to voters in 2015.
District leaders hosted students, staff and community members August 8th for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event concluded two years of planning, design and construction as part of Westside’s 2015 Master Facilities Plan. The original Sunset Hills Elementary School, built in 1956, was demolished this summer; the new Sunset Hills was built just to the west of the original school at 95th and Walnut Street.
The new building is a 2-section elementary school, approximately double the size of the previous building. It opened for the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 14th.
